BEDWORTH United manager Liam O'Neill is ready to get his boots
out of storage and figure in this Saturday's FA Cup, preliminary round tie at
Willenhall.
Such is the Greenbacks' injury list - six first-teamers sidelined plus Andreas
Kattos away on family business in Cyprus - that O'Neill is ready to name himself
in the squad that goes to Noose Lane.
O'Neill, who watched his men grab an excellent point in a goalless draw at
Nuneaton Town on Bank Holiday Monday, said: "We had five key players missing at
Nuneaton and two more suffered injuries during the game and have we haven't a
big squad available to me then it looks highly likely I'll have to make a
comeback.
"All being well it should be on the substitute's bench but you never know if
someone is going to fall ill or get injured in training, if that happens then a
recall to playing for Liam O'Neill is definitely a possibility. It's the last
thing I want but it's the best option open."
O'Neill praised his team for their valiant efforts at Liberty Way and especially
centre-back Danny Pitham, who was a crucial cog in United's defensive strategy.
"He's among the best defenders in this league, if not the best! Danny hardly
missed a header or anything on the ground during the whole 90 minutes, he was
superb.
"And Ben Thackeray also impressed. Considering he was playing Coventry Alliance
football a year ago, the lad has stepped up and shown he has all the attributes
to perform at this level if not higher.
"It was a great team effort at Nuneaton and I shall be looking for another
disciplined and determined display at Willenhall," added O'Neill.
