League new comers Slough just about deserved this victory over their midland visitors Bedworth United at a windswept and rain soaked Holloways Park.

United started this encounter but it was the hosts that looked the better side in the opening period, indeed Sean Sonner had a glorious chance in after six minutes but his close range shot sailed over the cross bar from about twelve yards out.

Minutes later and it the visitors turn to go close after a Robbie Beard shot forced the Rebels keeper Ricky Perks into making a fine save, moments later Beard beat Perks but his rasping shot was denied by the cross bar, the remainder of the first half was a low key affair with Slough having most of the ball but not really troubling the united defence except for one blip when on loan keeper Dave Bevan almost presented the Rebels with a goal after miss judging a Sonner shot.

Half Time 0 - 0

Five minutes into second half Bevan produced a fine save from a Chris Heron free kick, the corner was taken by Steve Sinclair whose pass to Heron only needed a touch as the ball went through the crowded goal mouth to find its way in the net but as it was the ball went for a goal kick.

On the hour Sinclair gave the Rebels their first goal Dean Harper played the ball out to Sinclair and with Bevan out of position had the easy task of lobbing the Villa keeper.

A minute later Bevan redeemed himself after making a good save from Paul Edgworth. Sonner put the game out of Bedworth's reach seventeen minutes from time Edgworth had plenty of time and space too himself but decided to play the ball out to the striker who had the easy task of beating Bevan.

Slough thought that they had netted a third goal but somehow a Grant Avis shot flew over the cross bar after apparently skimming off a divot.

United thought they had gained a consolation goal in the closing minutes but Fazel Koriya was deemed to be in an off side position.
