After United`s mid week FA Cup win they travelled to Bedfordshire to take on second from bottom side Barton Rovers looking for their first win of the season.

Rovers who like their visitors have also not won a game this season had ideas of their own, as they raced into the lead inside 13 seconds of the kick off wide man Peter Duffy received the ball sped down the left hand side nipped past the outstretched legs of Paddy Connolly and tucked the ball past keeper Andy Kemp's near post, minutes later a similar move by Duffy was halted by Sam Shilton.

United went close to equalising but Fazel Koriya effort was just over the cross bar after a flowing move started by Koriya and Shilton.

Rovers should have been 2 up but somehow Russell Bull missed an open goal following a calamitous mix up in the Bedworth defence.

On the half hour Paul Andrews prevented United from drawing level when blocking a Matty Brown shot which was followed up by a spectacular save from Rovers keeper Michael Parkin, five minutes later the home side gained a free kick on the half way line which was taken by Lee Wilson which in turn was headed on by Ray Antcliff into the path of Joel Mason who forced the ball past Kemp.

The Greenbacks tried to get back into the game in the closing minutes of the first half but succumbed to a third goal almost on the final whistle deep into injury time, a well placed cross by Mason was headed past Kemp by Bull.

Moments earlier had seen Barton Rovers assistant manager sent from the dug out for something he was supposed to have said to the assistant linesman.

Half Time 3 - 0

Straight from the re-start saw the Greenbacks attack the blue shirted Barton defence and indeed they were unlucky not to score after a fierce Brown shot rattled against the cross bar but as the visitors pounded away at the Rovers defenders the ball was sent down field the ball was picked up by Bull who easily beat Kemp to make it 4-0.

Kemp made a great save from Mason to prevent number five, with fifteen minutes left Bedworth`s Ashley Robinson gained a consolation goal, then eight minutes later substitute Danny Edmond cashed in on a poor defensive error to give the small travelling band of Greenbacks followers a tiny glimpse of hope when he made 4-2.

But the small ray of hope was washed away as Richard Allen was sent for an early bath following his second yellow card, Right at the death Rovers made it a nap hand after Mason netted his second goal of the day and Barton's fifth to give them their first win this season and to send the visitors last but one in the league.

If next weeks FA Cup opposition Rainworth MW were at the game they must think that they could get at least a draw on this showing from the United. But with Robbie Beard and Matty Blair (and hopefully Jamie Lenton making a belated first team debut) then we might see a different United approach.

Full Time 5 - 2
