United managed a well earned draw on this the first day of the new season among the fen lands of East Anglia at Soham Town despite being 2 goals down after thirty minutes. Although Rangers started the game it was their midland visitors who had the first attempt at goal in the opening minutes but Robbie Beard was denied by keeper Jamie Chamberlain.

On six minutes Rangers were denied of what they thought was a good penalty call but Norwich referee gave a free kick on the edge of the goal area for Gilbert Cummins reckless challenge on Dubi Ogbonna. United found the back of the net but Fazel Koriya was deemed to be offside.

Town went in front just before the half hour Greenbacks keeper Andy Kemp made a fine save from Adam Weston but unfortunately the ball rebounded off his body and fell to the feet of Ogbonna who had the easiest of chances to put the ball away. A minute later and it 2-0 to the home side Michael Simpson finished off a fine move created by Kenneth Gray.

These two goals provided to a wake up call for United and it came as no surprise as Beard forced the ball over goal line in the last minute of the first half in a goal melee.

Half Time 2 - 1

After the resumption both sides went close and the competition at times got a little over heated which saw two yellow cards being shown both to the home team.

United were twice denied by the woodwork but their rewards came to fruition on fifteen minutes from a corner taken by Sam Shilton seemed to be only half cleared by home defence but ball came out to substitute Ashley Robinson who nipped in to place the ball past Chamberlain.

Rangers thought that they had grabbed the winner a minute from full time but Deakin Napiers well placed shot was brilliantly saved by Kemp.

In the end a well earned and fought draw for both sides which hopefully should be the platform to build on for the Greenbacks when they entertain old rivals Bromsgrove Rovers on Tuesday night 7-45 ko.

Full Time 2 - 2
